Why Do So Many DF'd End In Some Sort Of Trouble?
by african GB Member inmost ex-jw's df/da that i know end up living a dangerous life.
some get into drugs, prostitution, gangsterism, etc.
as a result they prove the jw theory that says "whoever leaves jehovah's organisation won't make it" right.. it's difficult for me to say this, but it seems like jw's are partly right on this one.. why do most ex-dubs end up in a predicament of some sort?

Hang on, I think he's got a bit of a point to this.
Firstly, there are some xjws who end up in a bad situation, usually born-ins. I think this is because they are ill-prepared to live in the real world. It can take them a while to figure out what actually is right and wrong because of the jw upbringing having clouded things up to that point.
Secondly, as a jw it may seem that most xjws end up in dire straights because that is what they are told to believe and so find anicdotes to support that. What jw talks about his xjw friend who is now happily married, with some really wonderful kids etc? Or don't they much prefer to remember the xjw who got in to drugs, had an affair or otherwise commited some "immoral" act? Those are the stories that get passed around the cong, not the ones where the xjw is far happier with all the dub-related pressures lifted off their shoulders.

LL Ryder,
A lot of us were where you are now. I'd politely suggest you sit back a while. Read and listen. Question things, including what you yourself say. Be open minded. Start at the beginning and ask whether you can trust the source of the information you are getting. This includes, but is by no means limited to, the GB. Coroberate what you hear and do your own studying. That's the only way to figure out the wheat from the chaff, to coin a phrase.
All the best to you,

Strange...I wonder whether this will happen in more countries as time progresses. You know, with all that "persecution" to pay taxes etc.

Can a JW (who is "IN" for family) be an ATHEIST?
by african GB Member ini mean how would an atheist jw go to fs to tell worldlies about jehovah while he does'nt really believe in god?.
will the holy spirit "guide" such an individual?.
will the angels "accompany" such.....?.

There was a poll done on this subject. At the pew research institute.
http://pewresearch.org/pubs/876/religion-america-part-two
It shows that only 98% of jws believe in god, but only 82% believe in a personal god. However the same study says 21% of atheists believe in god, which makes no sense to me!
Anyway, the link is there for you to view the info yourself.

Any consequences for not attending the Memorial?
by sacolton infor active jws, what would happen if they missed the memorial?
guilt-trip from the elders?
why isn't it a disfellowshipping offense since it is stressed to be of vital importance to attend?.

I'll soon find out the answer to this! Tonight will be the first one I've ever missed. Ever.
I hadn't been invited and then a couple of days ago I got an invite from an elder, via text message! Would I cave to his oh-so-genuine invite? No, I didn't reply. Thought I'd shun him instead!
Btw, my other half didn't attend last year and no one made an issue of it.
So tonight we're going somewhere that we can actually drink the wine that's being passed around! LOL Cheers!

Long time lurker, 1st time poster
by Mattieu inwell where do i start, perhaps will go into more detail later, though briefly - 40 years young, raised in the truth (kingdom baby, which meant i was never going to make it to primary/secondary school/work/get married/have kids....) former ms, regular pioneer, learnt 3 foreign languages, served in foreign language group, married (wife still goes to meetings), beautiful kids, baptised at 15 years of age, regular pioneer at 15, grew up in divided house.. .
hmmm, will go into my issues with all things organisational later, though firstly want to apologise, for being a self righteous spiritual pratt who did things by the book and sat with other elders/mss and prejudged others for not doing enough and having a wrong attitude about all matters spiritual and organisational.
i stepped down as an ms over a year ago (they were grooming me to be an elder), havent been to a meeting in 3 months, i knew it wasnt the truth for a number of years and have struggled badly the last few years.

See, this is weird because when I read the other posts I remembered watching Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie (which I loved!) as a child but my mother had a problem with Sabrina The Teenage Witch! Now the reason was because some wise ass elder of the anointed class mentioned from the platform that Sabrina and Harry Potter were demonic programs that encouraged interest in the occult. But by then I had a tv in my own bedroom so watched it anyway!

Is this more dub-speak?
by Amha·aret ini've only got one sibling and she's a dub.
" line a few times but recently there was a slightly different slant to it.
she said to me that if i find something better than the dubs then to let her know but for the moment she thinks the jws are the best of a bad lot.

Good points Spook.
But it also brings me to what's scary about that religion/cult. She's not nearly as into the dubs as I was yet when I tried to show her something about the blood issue, she almost literally closed her eyes and stuck her fingers in her ears! It was quite sad and shocking to see that reaction out of my own sister. But maybe if I try a slowly slowly approach and, like you suggest, tackle the life-and-death issues first then perhaps I can manage to share a little information with her.
